Cute Christmas Drawings Easy Step by Step
Winter is coming, and with it come all the winter holidays! Let's celebrate by drawing a few very simple illustrations that you can create without any previous experience.
I will lead you step by step to help you draw a robin on a branch, a cute reindeer, a present with a beautiful bow, and a Christmas decoration. You can also watch a video of me drawing each, to see exactly how to do it!
What You Will Need
- A sheet of paper
- A pencil
- Anything darker than the pencil (a thin marker, a gel pen, a ballpoint pen, etc.)
Before you start, keep a few things in mind:
- The smaller the drawings, the easier it will be for you to keep the correct proportions. Draw all the animals on one sheet, and treat them like small practice sketches rather than artworks on their own.
- The illustrations in this tutorial are clear so that you see what you're supposed to draw—yours don't need to and even shouldn't be so perfectly drawn.
- Don't try to draw the shapes with a single continuous line. Watch the videos to see how I build the shapes out of curves, connecting them only when I see what I was trying to draw.
- The base for each drawing should be drawn with a pencil, with subtle lines, without pushing the tool too hard. This way the lines will not be visible when you finish the drawing with dark outlines. Watch the videos to see both phases of drawing.
1. How to Draw a Robin in Winter
Step 1
Start with a circle for the body. It doesn't need to be a perfect circle.
Step 2
Add another, smaller circle for the head.
Step 3
Add a small oval for the eye.
Step 4
Cross the eye with a curve to create a smiling expression.
Step 5
Add a dot of light to the eye.
Step 6
Draw the little beak. Keep it tiny for a cute effect.
Step 7
Draw the wing...
Step 8
... and the tail.
Step 9
Robins are famous for the orange crest in front of their body—don't forget to show it, even if you don't intend to add colors!
Step 10
Time for the branch for the robin to sit on. Start by defining its shape.
Step 11
Then define its width by drawing a circle at each branching.
Step 12
Draw the tiny feet with two rows of little ovals.
Step 13
You can add snow by building it out of circles and ovals. This will create some natural chaos.
Step 14
Take your darker tool now and stress the lines you want to see.
2. How to Draw a Cute Christmas Reindeer
Step 1
Start with a circle, this time for the head.
Step 2
Add a smaller circle for the muzzle.
Step 3
Create the nose with a small oval.
Step 4
Draw the open mouth with a few curves.
Step 5
Draw the eyes using the technique from How to Draw Simple Cute Animals in Chibi Style.
Step 6
Add the ears.
Step 7
The antlers look complicated, but they can be drawn with a simple method. First draw the main part...
... add the protruding "tines"...
... define the width of each part...
... and outline it all!
Step 8
If you want, you can add a mane for the neck.
Step 9
Now you can take the darker tool and finish the drawing.
3. How to Draw a Christmas Present With a Bow
Step 1
We're going to use geometry quite a lot here, so feel free to use a ruler (it's optional). Draw a straight vertical line first.
Step 2
Define a certain section on the bottom, and then add roughly the same length to the top.
Step 3
Cross the top of each section with a line. They both should make a short rectangle.
Connect their ends with vertical lines. They should have the same length as the middle one.
Step 4
Connect all three lines.
Step 5
Find the center of each diagonal line...
... then cross these marks with lines parallel to the others.
Step 6
Close the shape with two more parallel lines.
Step 7
Create a ribbon by adding some width to the middle lines.
Step 8
Let's draw the bow now. Attach a flattened "8" to one side of the ribbon...
... then to the other side.
Step 9
Connect both shapes with lines parallel to the edges of the present.
Step 10
Cross it with another bow, if you want.
Step 11
Finish the drawing with something darker.
4. How to Draw a Christmas Decoration
Step 1
Start by defining the shape of the branch.
Step 2
Draw short needles all over the branch...
... then add some longer ones...
... and finally the longest. Don't make them too thin!
Step 3
Let's hang a ball here. You can draw a perfect circle using this method:
Step 4
Add a little hanger on the top.
Step 5
Hang the ball on the branch with a piece of ribbon.
Step 6
If you want to draw a pattern on the ball, you need to define the perspective first. You can do it by drawing ellipses inside the circle.
Step 7
Let's draw a cute bow on the branch. This is the same method I've used for the present.
Step 8
Finish the drawing with a darker tool. Don't forget to add some decoration to the ball!
Good Job!
